Kinetic parameters of petroleum coke gasification for modelling chemical-looping combustion systems

One of the best low-cost approaches for capturing carbon dioxide from combustion solid fuels is chemical looping (CLC) technology, where processes fuel oxidation and extraction oxygen air are split in two separate reactors. In order to model petroleum coke (petcoke) conversion a CLC method, detailed knowledge about reactions pet-coke with O2, CO2, H2O at temperatures between 750 1100 °C required. Due lack sufficient literature data, this paper, reactivity these investigated custom-built test rig that enabled measurements mass loss sample composition released gases. The Avrami, Random Pore, Shrinking Core, Hybrid models were applied experimental results determine kinetic parameters petcoke gasification. At up 1000 °C, reaction CO2 was found be negligibly slow. An activation energy 103.91 kJ/mol obtained gasification 10–40 vol% H2O, while value 15.87 2–4 as described by best-fitting models, i.e. Pore respectively.
